5 Beginner Blogging Tips!

You want to start a blog, but you don't know where to begin. You open your computer and head straight to Google. Type in "beginner blogging tips" and a slew (millions...........) of results appears.

You read. And read. And read. And read some more. {You will find that between writing and reading, you have many words go in and out of your brain!}

Well,  I'm here to make this a little easier, by combining the things I have learned over the past year of blogging! Hopefully this will help settle your fears, point you in the right direction, and get you moving to growing your blog!

{This will be an ongoing series, I don't want to bore you with a novel about web logging!}

Start with the basics:

1. You want to treat your blog like a business (if you're in to that kind of thing...) Make a business plan - set goals for yourself and for your blog - set a budget, and set an income goal. What can you do right now to inch yourself closer to these goals??

2. Keep a notebook {or an Evernote Notebook!} handy at all times... You never know when inspiration may strike! And, while you have your notebook handy, a picture can jog you memory wayy better than that scribble scrabble! Snap a few photos of something that looks interesting, something you want to make yourself, a dinner out that you would like to recreate, etc.

See this picture? Taken with my iPhone, still haven't blogged about it...

3. When I speak with others about starting a blog, the main concern is not being a "good writer." - I am here to tell you, I am no English fanatic. But! The awesome thing about blogging??? You are you, and no one else can be you! Write in YOUR voice, you know the one you talk to your sister and your best friend in?? If you know me in real life, you totally just read that in my voice! And, if you only know my in the blogging life, you probably read it in my voice! It does help to use proper grammar and eloquent words, but that's why we have thesaurus.com and Google.

4. Alright, next thing! Read. Read. Read. Read. Read. Read. You may be doing a lot of writing, but reading will help improve your writing. Reading awesome books like the one below will help keep you onwards to your goal. Inspiring you to go, go go!

I had my handy blog Moleskin and Calendar while reading. Just in case! ;-)

5. Along with several other aethestically pleasing items {which I will go into later! They deserve their own post... I will be on my soap box.}  make it easy for people to be in contact with you. Have your email and Social Media elements in view - making it efficient for others and brands to reach out to you!

Ready to go out and start conquering the Blogosphere???!

You can do it.

It may seem daunting, but it's not.

You blog for you and only you. Blog because you are documenting your family's activities to remember years from. Blog because you have a subject that is near to your heart, and you want your voice to be heard. Blog, because you have an opinion! Don't start a blog thinking you will make $$$$, you won't. It takes more time than you would have ever thought to compose a well thought out blog post. But! It's worth it in the end.

It is something to be proud of.

I would love to hear any tips you have for new bloggers!
